Airlines Take Off

One group that was once lagging the market but has now taken off are the airline stocks. Over the past 3 weeks these stocks have outperformed the S&P500 and one of the reasons for this strength has to do with falling oil prices.

Last summer oil prices peaked in June and shortly there after airline stocks exploded. Well, the same thing happened again in October which is when oil priced peaked which triggered this rally in the airlines that we are seeing now.

Airlines - talk about a 'greater fool' investment! But for a precious few examples, how much has the airline industry LOST over the past year, two, five, ten? When was the last time the industry turned a profit in aggregate, or paid a dividend?
